Grazing and Pasture Management
About
Grazing Management is one of the greatest tools a grazier has in their toolbox. It can be defined ‘as the total process of organising livestock to make the best use of the pastures grown or managing the frequency and intensity that livestock graze pastures’. Good grazing management practices will assist in retaining ground cover, minimise erosion, assist in building soils, and aid in water retention.
The SAF Project has promoted grazing management by bringing different experts to the regions. This is often done in conjunction with the East Gippsland TopSoils Project, Southern Farming Systems, Gippsland Agriculture Group, Snowy River Interstate Landcare Committee (SRILC), Far East Victoria Landcare (FEVL), the High Country Landcare Facilitator, and East Gippsland Landcare Network (EGLN).

Refractometer
A simple, robust instrument for measuring brix. Predict yield, quality, pest and disease pressure and stress resistance with a single tool. Here is a 13-minute video explaining how to monitor with a refractometer and what those Brix/Sugar readings mean.
This project is supported by East Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program.
