🌿 Town Landcare Project Update – Snowy West Landcare Group
Another fruitful morning was enjoyed at the Orbost Rainforest Centre, with nine members attending, including one new member.
The group spent an hour and a half walking, talking and catching up while enjoying this special community space. Activities included:
• Walking the tracks and discussing future improvements (with thanks to Heather for her ongoing track maintenance)
• Planting rainforest species to fill gaps in existing garden beds
• Discussing management options for the invasive Hedgehog Cactus infestation
• Trimming overhanging vegetation to improve visibility and ease future maintenance
• Exploring ideas to reinstate the frog pond
• Cup of tea and biscuits
Looking ahead to the next gathering, members discussed plans to:
• Organise a trailer and working bee to remove cacti, following discussions with neighbouring landholders
• Revegetate the western area with suitable native species (thanks to Graham for spraying the weeds in preparation)
• Research and report back on options, funding opportunities and any legal requirements associated with re-establishing the frog pond
As always, everyone's ideas and input are welcome as we continue planning improvements to the gardens.
Most importantly, we look forward to finding new ways to enjoy and care for this unique and valuable part of Orbost.
